Narrative

Name: Virginia Macqueen Travell M.D.
Late in life she moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, to be nearer one of her children (Willard) and the family summer home, Merryfield Farm, in the Berkshires. If you want to be accurate about her place of death, she died in Hawaii. She had made a trip to Papua, New Guinea, to visit Sheldon, one of her four children who was living there at the time, and came down with malaria. She had had all the necessary shots ahead of time but the strain of malaria that infected her wasn't covered by the shots, apparently. She got off the plane and went to a hospital in Hawaii and died there. Her youngest child, Elinor, and a niece, Sara, flew out and were with her at the end. Elinor has since moved to Hawaii. It is of interest that three of Virginia T. Weeks, M.D.'s children became M.D.s and one became a PhD. Please feel free to use however much or little of this material that you want. Elinor recently sent me the birth and death dates for her parents. Virginia T. Weeks died Feb. 13, 1981. "Pop" Weeks, her husband, was born 8/23/1885 and died 6/30/1960. I had sent her a copy of Judi Abbott's and George Eastman's web pages that included her parents and she said her father's birthdate was incorrect. I've written to both Judi and George. Pop Weeks's parents listed below are correct. Virginia
